1975 World Fantasy Award Nominees

Location: World Fantasy Convention, Providence, Rhode Island

Comments: 1975 saw the debut of the World Fantasy Awards, intended as a fantasy themed alternative to the science fiction focused Hugo and Nebula Awards, and they got off on the right foot by honoring one of the best fantasy writers working at the time in Patricia McKillip for her novel The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, and handing a lifetime achievement award to the brilliant fantasist Robert Bloch.

The overall array of the World Fantasy Awards was, as with most of the other awards, a little bit unsettled at the outset, with only awards for Best Novel, Best Short Fiction, Best Collection, Lifetime Achievement, Best Artist, and two Special Awards being handed out. This lineup would change, in some cases the categories would change very quickly. But the base consisting of the Best Novel and Best Short Fiction was set.
